Edelweiss Guest House

A last minute first-time trip to IOM required an overnight stay and using a google search i found a room at this guest house for under $100. I love all things vintage so I was hopeful it would work out and decided to take a chance and booked it. Upon arrival I rang the doorbell of the locked front door (a sign was posted indicating it was a ‘private hotel’) and was greeted by a friendly staff member who checked me in and oriented me to the very tidy and quiet Victorian guest house. I had no trouble finding parking on the major front street, Queens Promenade, a block out the front door. I used the adorable one-person elevator and found my room on the top floor. To my great relief the room was clean and fresh and felt cozy and homey, like it was waiting just for me. Later in the evening I conveniently walked around the corner to get dinner, enjoyed a guitarist through a hotel window who was performing live in the lobby. I had a warm shower, a cup of tea and a very comfortable night’s sleep. In the morning as I left my key in the drop box the sky was beautiful above the bay right out front and I felt ready to take on the day!

As part of a group of 13 cyclists, I stayed at the Edelweiss recently and we all enjoyed the facilities and great service from the owner Shirley and her team. Rooms are not overly large but are clean and comfortable with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. A good breakfast (buffet style) provided plenty of food which helped set us up for our daily cycling and secure bike storage gave us peace of mind. Shirley was able to recommend places to eat and also provided breakfast early on our last day to enable us to get to our ferry in time. Highly recommend the Edelweiss for a great value stay in a great central location.👍

Absolutely lovely staff, who is very welcoming and is taking care of any requests. The hotel itself has nice rooms and comfortable beds. I also recommend the breakfast. The baths are quite small, but clean and also good shower with enough water pressure. The location is little far outside of Douglas, which causes trouble if you want to rely on late bus connections etc. However during normal operating hours this isn't really an issue, and there is also a bus station right in front of the guest house.

Nice old school hotel. It's a short walk to the Electric Railway, the Steam Railway, port and all the facilities in town plus it's close to a request stop for the horse-drawn tram. I was sceptical of the "sea view" claim because the hotel is on a side street off the promenade but I did indeed have a good view from my first floor room. On the subject of views the bathroom also had a very good view and no frosted glass window so could be seen into from the street. Thankfully I realised and pulled the blind down just in time on first use... The staff were polite and very helpful. We chose not to have the breakfast service purely because we were out and about a lot but did have the packed breakfast and that set us up nicely on the return ferry without having to join the onboard queues. I'd stay there again.

We have been to IOM for 3 annual holidays and by far, the Edelweiss is the most friendly, clean, and pleasant atmosphere. We will continue to stay there on our travels to the Isle. Thank you Shirley, Luke, and the team!
